100 Days and Beyond
March 12, 2010So the 100 Days are over. There was a big lovely event where everyone showed off what they had been up to and Josie Long and a few other people talked about their project. Look here for stuff about the fantastic event.
So am I a better person? You could muse all day about what that actually means, and lots of people have. Does doing something artistic make you a better person? It probably wouldn’t make everyone a better person, but it has made me one.
More than being artistic (if you can call twitter plays art—I do, incidentally), I’ve actually shared pieces of myself, however small, and honestly I think that means something. I think that’s a big part of why the work of one of my favourite fellow 100 Dayers, Edward Ross, was so compelling; he shared with us tiny moments of his past, present and future.
Why is it that sharing part yourself can be so meaningful? That’s better left for someone else to discuss (someone who likes being Deep and Meaningful), but I know that it is.
So I think I’ll keep this blog alive, transitioning over to stuff about the 27 List or anything really, I’ll figure it out as I go along.
I sort of feel like this post is a little self indulgent, but I kinda felt like it was important.
Let me know if I’m being too self indulgent/boring/wet in future, won’t you?
Oh, and I’ll still write some twitter plays from time to time. It’s too much fun just to stop. Check them out (@shortplays).
Day 101
March 1, 2010Long Live the Queen
Cy: I’ve got a surprise.
Deb: Please listen. I just said I want to break up.
Cy: So this isn’t a good time to show you my Union Jack thong?

So, only nine more days to go. I’ve got two items to put forward on the agenda.
1. The Museum of One Hundred Days (part of the London Word Festival), Wed 10th March, 7pm @ Work Dalston. Tix: £10 adv/£12 door. There will be lots of amazing people there showing what they’ve done for the past 100 days. I’ve got my very own plinth, but the question is: what should I put on it? I’d like to display my twitter plays in some way and, aside from hiring two gnomes to act them out on top of my small plinth, which brings about all sorts of issues, I’ve considered a digital photo frame or just a nice little handwritten book. What do you think? Suggestions on a postcard, please.
2. I’ve been wondering, as I know a few fellow 100 Dayers have: what happens on Day 101?
I’ve really enjoyed this project in a huge way. I don’t know if it awakened my inner writer or if these hundred days just happened to coincide with a new stage in my life, but I think back to 1st December and I definitely feel different (and I would venture to say better). I have a loads of thoughts about the past 100 days, but I think I’ll save that for the end. What I’m concerned with now is what to do on Day 101.
I know I want to carry on the twitter plays in some way. Well, I’m kind of limited actually, they have to be on Twitter or it defeats the whole purpose. But I don’t want to carry on with the project as if it never stopped because I think I’ll find it just won’t be the same without my fellow 100Dayers.
So I’m thinking of starting a Twitter account exclusively for the twitter plays and writing one when I feel like it, which I intend to be quite regularly. But how should I work this? Obviously twitter plays posted on a single account won’t have room for any titles (as it will exceed the 140 char. limit), which are sometimes my favourite part. But if I have them all in one place people can see them immediately in their feed without having to click any links, and it will also be easier for people to retweet if they so desire. Or maybe I’ve given this entirely too much thought and I should just shut up about it.
What do you think?
And what will you do on Day 101?
1 down, 26 to go
February 18, 2010It’s mid February and I’m only just getting started on my 27 List with #8. I should probably start pursuing this list a little harder if I want to have a hope at finishing.
Likely Story got together for a weekend to explore the theme of HOME. We took inspiration from notes, pictures, videos and music we asked people to post on our Facebook wall and we kept the conversation going on Facebook and Twitter throughout the day.
I think there’s a lot more to explore both with the theme of HOME and in the use of digital channels when developing and showing work. Hopefully we’ll continue to do so.
Here’s a rough cut of a few things we explored on the weekend:
Homage/Plagiarism Week
February 15, 2010Right I’ve finally got caught up on my 100days project. It has been a bit hit-and-miss the past couple of weeks, so I hope I can power on through to day 100.
It’s homage (plagiarism) week, so my I’m taking some inspiration from some of my favourite 100 dayers:
Day 73: This One’s For Gran
Jan: Do you realise this is the first time I’ve ever embroidered a vagina?
Beth: Really? I’ve done it loads. Pass me that tiny pink button.
Homage to: Nikki and her 100 firsts project. Nikki’s firsts range from getting booed offstage to trying pickled walnuts.
•
Day 74: A Sensible Pair of Heels
Kev: I’m gay.
Gail: But our marriage. Oh God. But that expla-
Kev: Not really. It’s this project I’m doing. Wait, what were you gonna say?
Homage to: Andrew Phifer, a clear favourite of the 100 Days project, and rightly so. He’s coming out to one person each day for 100 days and tracking his progress on his blog.
•
Day 75: In Memoriam (based on this wikipedia article)
Gus: What a waste of money. Another memorial fountain for some poor fool who’s six feet under and can’t argue.
Lyndall: Damn shame.
Homage to: Ben Partridge and his Random Article project.
•
Day 76: So Close
A party. A banner reads ‘Happy 100th Marge’.
Abby: She’s coming up the walk!
Everyone hides. Abby turns out the lights. Marge enters.
Homage to: Michael Sheen, writing 100 beginnings (well, 99 beginnings and one ending). Lookie here.
•
Day 77: Heads Up Seven Up, a play about copying someone else’s work
Ms Nix: Ok, you have ten minutes to- Kimmy! Eyes on your own paper!
Kimmy: But Ms N-
Ms Nix: No buts. You want a detention?
Kimmy:..no.
Homage to: Lizzie Poulton, where the plagiarism began.
Two more days of plagiarism week. Follow the rest of my plays on Twitter: @gregwohead if you like that kind of thing.
Welcome Home!
February 5, 2010Lou: Ah, home. This bed never felt so soft.
Jess: I should have told you this sooner–
Lou: What.
Jess: Tigger gave birth on your pillow.

I’ve only just realized that I’m about to complete my first 27 List item:
Likely Story is doing a project this weekend:
On Saturday 6th Feb, Likely Story will convene for 1 day, emerging at 5pm Sunday 7th Feb to share a brand new short piece about HOME.
We want you to help us create this piece. What reminds you of HOME? What does HOME mean to you?
Submit a bit of text, a picture, a video, an article, a song, a recipe. Anything, really:
-Post it on the Facebook event‘s wall.
-Post it on our FB page wall.
-Tweet it to us (@_LikelyStory) with the hashtag #LSPlayDay so we can find it.We’ll use it as inspiration for the project. The more varied, the better. We know you guys live in many different places all around the world; the UK, US, Canada and beyond, and we’d like to know what HOME means to you.
If you’d like to come see the short piece we’ll have created in a day, we’d love to have you. We’ll be showing it at 5pm 7th February at a secret location in Cardiff, so just message us privately or email us on info@likelystory.org.uk to find out where it is.
And since we know many of you won’t be anywhere near Cardiff that weekend, you can track our progress on Facebook and Twitter (@_LikelyStory_), and we’ll even record the showing in some way, whether it be video, photographic or interpretive dance, and share it with you.
Feel free to share this little project with anyone.
Best wishes,
Likely Story
That’s all happening this weekend. If you wanted to get involved that would be really cool.
The First Step to 26.2 Miles
February 2, 2010Harry ties his trainers, heads to the door. Stops. He forgot his iPod. Goes to get it, comes back. Braces himself. Goes out the door.

Today wasn’t actually my first step to finishing the Brighton Marathon (though it makes for better dramatic effect in a twitterplay), it was sort of my first actual step, if that makes sense.
While I’ve been sticking my toes back into running for several weeks now, today I plunged back into training for #4 on my 27 List:
I ran 8 miles, which I admit isn’t that far considering the distance I’m shooting for, but it was enough to remind me how much I love running. I went along the canal out to Hackney Marshes, past the construction site for the 2012 Olympics and back along the canal.
For the first time in months I ran through that barrier (for me it’s about 4-5 miles) beyond which my breathing regulates and I really get into the rhythm. It’s probably because my mind goes a little bit fuzzy at that point; I’m not sure that’s supposed to happen, but I’m going with it.
And I love/hate that final stretch where you know you’ve almost made it and you put on a good song that motivates you to sprint to the end.
So thanks, Moby, for that.
Oh, and must not forget to say thanks to Lizzie Poulton (@LizziePoulton) for giving me the suggestion AGES ago of ‘marathon’. Thanks! Sorry it took me so long to get there.
But better late then never.
Can I please see your Twitterplay Library card?
January 29, 2010I admit I’m a tad late, but I finally got around to putting the first 50 twitterplays all in one place. Just in case you wanted to get caught up. At the end of the 100 days I’ll post the rest.
Oh, and just ignore the dates. They mean nothing.
