I never even killed a bird

an autobiographical performance

Growing up in Texas, I was a geeky alcohol-abstinent God-fearing marching band member, so it seemed like an exciting idea to go with my friends to the abandoned orphanage out on Highway 1417. After a series of mishaps that includes stealth-crawling, fence-jumping and accidentally running from the police, we all end up spending the night in jail. I never even killed a bird conveys the tale using storytelling and projected drawings.

Meet our cellmates, hear about the delicious chocolate cake and find out how my prison name came to be Harry Potter.

//I never even killed a bird was originally developed from a 10-minute storytelling set with saltpeter at Samantha’s Sunday Night Supper Club at Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club. The show debuted at The Yard in September 2011 and has since been performed at BAC as part of nabokov Arts Club and at LXV Books (whose proprietor, Sebastian Sandys, wrote some lovely words about the show here).//
